The best thing about the internet is that there is a plethora of information out there on different business opportunities, leads you can buy, people who will help you, systems you can tap into, and tools you can use to build your business. The bad thing about the internet is that one can easily get overwhelmed and sink back into the remission stage of finding a business. It’s intimidating, especially if this is your first rodeo in the home based business arena.
My goal in writing this article is to help fledgling home business entrepreneurs a fighting chance at making the right decision. A sad statistic is that most network marketers will go through eight different MLM companies before finally finding their fit. A vast majority of these people will quit before finding success and that is a sad reality. You see, this profession does work, and it works in a B-I-G when guided properly. This article will make you aware of the things to look for when partnering with a company and will reduce the amount of time you take in finding the right opportunity.
I have been a full-time network marketer for six years. I am very passionate about the profession, however, I have seen great people leave the industry because they are frustrated with their lack of success. There are four main reasons people leave the industry burnt out: lack of mentorship in the profession, not being a good fit for the company(ies) they are involved with, not having the skills to develop their business or lastly, not having the right systems in place to help them build their business quickly and get to earning a paycheck quickly. The objective of this article is to assist you in finding a business for the home based business opportunity seeker.
These four areas will be your salvation! When you explore the profession with this knowledge, you will greatly improve your chances of making a right decision from the start and finding success more quicker. We will delve into these four aspects below.
So, you may be approached with a business by your cousin Susy. Susy has just gotten started in her business as well. That said, the last thing you will want to do is join right away. Do your due diligence! You see, Susy may have turned you on to the home based business idea, however, Susy’s business may not be the right fit for you! So, let’s get to it and show you how to do your due diligence:
#1 – Find a Great Mentor – I have to say, that this step must be done FIRST before even looking for a company. I realize that sounds backwards, however, it is a critical step. After moving through this article, you may find that Cousin Susy’s company is a great fit for you, however, keep in mind that Susy will not be your success mentor. She is too new herself! You will need to find someone you want to emulate. Preferable someone in the industry full-time, has a vast knowledge of network marketing, and can give you a direct blueprint on how to grow your business quickly. This person may not even be in your business! You may wonder why someone outside of your company would want to help you and that’s a great question. If they are true mentors and leaders and successful at what they do, they will have no qualms about helping you succeed. Successful people want to perform the greater good for our profession. They will show you tools and systems to use and it’s up to YOU to implement them! Ultimately, this would be a person that I might join in his/her company. Successful network marketers know how to choose a good company. They have done their professional due diligence and I would suggest doing as they do!
2 – Finding Your Fit with the Right Company – This decision is a biggie and should not be based on emotion. Consider the following 5 aspects when making this critical decision: #1 – Does the company have a sizzle product? Is there a lot of competition for it? Is it a category creator? #2 – Capitalization – Does the company have enough capitalization to get them through the growing pains that will inevitably happen? There is nothing more devastating them putting your time and energy into building an organization and seeing it go down the tubes when the company runs out of money! #3 – Compensation plan – how are you going to get paid? You should be getting paid on multiple levels of generations. If a comp plan rewards more for personally sponsored team members than it is NOT promoting the correct behavior and should be avoided! Proper comp plans now will compensate for multiple generations, usually 7. This entices the leader to tap root his organization and help his leaders build large organizations. The leader reaps the rewards by being paid on multiple generations down, rather than selfishly building wide with no vested interest in his team! #3 – Management depth – Who is running your company? Is it a successful business person from outside the network marketing arena? If so, RUN like the wind. Building a network marketing company is a whole different animal. The management should have a successful track record starting, building, expanding network marketing companies internationally. There should be no shortage of experience at this level in MLM! #5 – Field Leadership – who is building organizations within the company? Does the company attract BIG names in the profession? Ask your potential sponsor who the top earners are. Google their names and see who they are. Remember, top earners in the industry know how to spot a goldmine of a company! You will want to follow their lead and join! If there aren’t any big names, that should be a clue!
3. Start developing your skills NOW – skill development comes from reading books, listening to CD’s or going to self-improvement seminars. There are different areas you can grow in: self-improvement, actual network marketing skill development, motivation, leadership. The possibilities are endless! The more you learn, the more you earn. When interviewing potential leaders, they should always ask you what the last book was that you read. This helps THEM determine if you are the kind of student they will take under their wing, so if your last book was a Danielle Steele romance novel, then go buy ‘Think and Grow Rich’ by Napolean Hill and read it. That will sound a lot better to a potential mentor than a mindless romance novel.
4 – Know marketing systems to help you build quickly – You will need to have a duplicable marketing system to generate an endless stream of leads to your business. You will, however, have so start with step one, which is to contact the first 100 people that come to your mind. Your own sphere of influence. You will have to let them know what it is you are doing. Most will not join your business, so expect that, however, they can be sources for future referrals. You will then need to develop the skill of constantly prospecting. Generating leads and prospects that you will present your business to. As I mentioned, there are systems that allow you to generate endless streams of leads online and most network marketers are NOT utilizing a system like this. These systems will put a very big space between you as a company success story, and the masses of other distributors all doing the same thing!
In conclusion, when you know these four aspects and use them to partner with the right mentor and company, you will start your MLM business off 10 steps ahead of the average network marketer! This profession has been, unequivocally, the best decision I have ever made. I didn’t know these aspects starting out so it took me four companies before I finally found a mentor and a company to stick with. When I did, my business took off! ‘Taking off’ is something you will want sooner rather than later, so be sure these same things help you determine your fit!
